The Leapfrog
LeapPad Tablet has a nice looking 5" screen which is big
and bright.I could not find any way to adjust the brightness of the
screen but that is a minor point. The LeapPad screen screen
is bigger than the screen on it's sibling the Leapster Explorer which
is only 3.2 inches in size. This big screen is definitely a big
improvement and is really nice to view. The screen resolution
of LeapPad is 480 x 272 and it is a It is a touch screen. You
can touch the screen with the stylus that comes with LeapPad or just
use your finger. The supplied stylus is magnetic, but it can be
attached to the LeapPad with a cord (supplied to avoid losing it. There
is also an extra stylus includedto the device with a supplied cord. An
extra stylus is supplied which is handy if you lose or break
one.
The LeapPad comes in white color with pink or green decorative accents.
Pink seems to be the popular color which sells more than green. The
controls on the front of the casing include a large silver
multi-function button which is used to move the cursor left-right and
up-down as well as to access other options, and the power on/off
button, sound volume buttons and the home button.
The LeapPad as suppliedcomes includes a camera,
microphone and video camera. The camera has a capacity of 30,000
pictures and the video camera has a capacity of 120 minutes viewing.
The LeapPad has many really great features. It doesn't break easily and
it keeps my 5 year old busy, entertained and really learning a lot.The
books and videos are fairly expensive but they are worth it. The books
are filled with features which are educational and entertaining at the
same time. If the child finds a word he is unable to read he just
clicks on it and it is read out to him. This I think really helps in
reading progress.
The videos are very learning oriented in teaching numbers and phonics,
which has helped my child to progress rapidly while also getting great
enjoyment.
You could spend quite a bit of money if you download a lot of apps
and/or games. However if you select well you don't need a lot of these
since the built in features in LeapPad are quite enough for most users.
You can add an extra app or two once in a while just for variety.

My Opinions and
Experience with LeapPad
This system has good educational value and is well worthwhile to help
with your childs learning pace. He/she will enjoy using LeapPad and
will learn much from its use.The books and videos are the heart of the
learning experience and are well designed.
You can of course get books and videos on your computer or tablet
without this device, but this is a dedicated device for your child
which feels more personal. In addition to this educational videos and
ebooks for your computer are much more expensive than these are.
I purchased only a couple of games to begin with and added a few more
gradually as special rewards. This works well and keeps interest high.
The LeapPad uses 4 AA batteries and I would recommend getting two sets
of rechargeable batteries since it burns through ordinary batteries at
a set per day. With the recargeables you just keep one set charging
while the other set is in use and there is no problem.
My feeling is that the LeapPad is certainly a worthwhile buy which will
provide a good learning experience and many hours of enjoyment for any
child.
